****Past Events & Benefits****
On Monday, August 6, 2007, Ricci's Salon & Spa, located at 99 South Main Street in Newtown, CT, held a Cut-A-Thon from 3 - 9 pm. The stylists who volunteered their time raised $1500 for the Foundation. All proceeds from this event were donated to the Angelo James Magliocco Foundation.
On Sunday, July 15, 2007, the Angelo James Magliocco Foundation held its 2nd Annual Fundraising Event at Christ the King Church, located in Trumbull, CT. This year we chose a carnival theme which focused around the children. The event began promptly at 1 pm with the constant flow of families arriving to support such an important cause. The entrance fee included all food and drinks, which was catered by Vazzy's Restaurant. We also had brick oven pizza, courtesy of our good friend, Emilio Ferri, which was a major hit and so delicious! Also included was face painting, temporary tattoos, an arts and crafts table, an inflatible 18 ft. dual lane slide, and games that the children could win prizes for! The highlight of the day was the dunk tank. We had many volunteers, including some of the children, who wanted to get into the tank to get dunked. To everyone's surprise, Mayor John Fabrizzi of Bridgeport and the First Selectman of Trumbull, Ray Baldwin, came to show their support by also getting dunked! We also had a very talented caricature artist who drew the children's pictures and Danny Magic, who put on an amazing magic show that lasted for an hour! The music for the day was donated by Diane and Snowy from Moments to Remember, who were perfectly entertaining for all of the age groups. The karaoke at the end of the day was a lot of fun to watch and the children really seemed to enjoy themselves. We had over 30 raffle items for the children that included bikes, scooters, skateboards, tickets to the Beardsley Zoo, Bridgeport Bluefish tickets, and Webkins - to name just a few! Between the entrance fee donations and the selling of raffle tickets, our foundation was able to raise $17,000! Part of the proceeds, a $6,000 grant, was given to 3 1/2 year old Isabella Kurek, who is living with SMA Type 1. The money will be put toward the building of a ramp and an extension off of the family's deck which will provide safer mobility for transporting Isabella in and out of the home. Any extra money will be put toward modifying the family's van. We can't thank everyone enough for all of their help in making this year's fundraiser a success!
On Sunday, May 6, 2007, the Angelo James Magliocco Foundation sponsored a "Walk For Wheels" to benefit Ethan Takacs, SMA Type 1. The fundraiser was held at Roger Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, CT from 10-1 pm. His parents, Kelly and Jason, held the event to raise money for Ethan's power chair, a transportation vehicle, ramp, and van tie-downs. There were over 100 raffle items, music, and some arts and crafts for the children. It was truly amazing to see the amount of support from the Takacs' family and friends. There were people that showed up who didn't even know the family, but had seen the event advertised and wanted to help by making a donation. This fundraiser was more successful than Kelly and Jason had hoped. They were able to raise close to $50,000!!! They can now turn their dream of mobility for their son, Ethan, into a wonderous reality.
On Saturday, September 30, 2006, the Angelo James Magliocco Foundation held it's first annual charity event at Marisa's Ristorante in Trumbull, CT. We had over 200 people come to support our foundation's kick-off, which made it very successful! There was an abundant amount of delicious food, an open bar, over 50 raffle prizes, and a silent auction on about a dozen items, including a week's stay at Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa, FL. There were 2 slideshows shown to music. The first one was a tribute to our son, Angelo James. It showed pictures of him and our family during his 7 weeks with us. The second one was of Ethan William Takacs, a 17 month old with SMA Type 1. He and his parents, Kelly and Jason, were the first recipients of a grant from the Angelo James Magliocco Foundation that totalled $6,000. His parents are planning on putting the money towards a power chair for him as soon as he's big enough. We can't thank everyone enough for their generous donations that made this event such a success!
On July 13, 2006, Sean Christopher Lynch, Jr. was baptized. He is the son of my best friend, Cathryn, and her husband, Sean. They decided to have their family and friends make a donation to the Angelo James Magliocco Foundation in lieu of gifts for their son. They were able to collect over $500! Their selflessness and generosity is greatly appreciated.
In June of 2006, St. Jude Parish in Monroe, CT made a generous donation to the Families of Spinal Muscular Atrophy (FSMA) in baby Angelo's name. The school's student counsel picked different charities and causes to donate the money to that the kids collected throughout the year doing various things. Our neices and nephew, Erika, Danielle, and Richie Sekerak, and Tiffany Marini, attend St. Jude and were involved in making this donation possible. Thank you to everyone involved. Your generosity and support will help children with SMA in so many ways!
In May of 2006, Gina Swanson's 5th grade class at Reed Intermediate School in Newtown, CT held a fundraiser to support the Angelo James Magliocco Foundation. The children put together beautiful and creative baskets filled with items to raffle off. The basket that drew the most interest was the one with Red Sox tickets. The children sold tickets for 1 week during their lunch period at $1 per ticket. They also sold red and black CureSMA bracelets which most of them wore everyday to show their support. They worked extremely hard all week and set a goal to raise $1,500. When the money was collected and counted, Mrs. Swanson had the honor of telling the children that they not only met their goal but were over by $1! We were so proud of the children that we gave them a surprise ice cream sundae party. Mrs. Swanson is hoping to hold another fundraiser in the spring of 2007. Thank you so much for all your hard work and dedication. |
